Dedicated to the memory of Nemawatee Jhurry

This site is a tribute to Nemawatee Jhurry. She is much loved and will always be remembered.

As many of you know, Mum was a strong, warm hearted, funny and intelligent woman. She was a great inspiration to me. She touched the lives of many people. She was a rock within our family, and was a dear friend to many. She faced many challenges in her life, but she faced all of them with great strength and dignity. She was a great role model for us in the family, and taught many values and principles that we continue to live by.

Mum was born in Mauritius in 1957, where she lived with her siblings in Rose Hill. She later moved to London in 1989. Mum raised myself, and many of us in the family, and taught at the local nursery in Hackney for some time. Before this, she worked as a machinist at the clothing factories in East London. Mum loved gardening and made the most of her balconies. And dearly loved our cat, Jupiter. Mum was also an excellent cook, and I think many of us will miss the food too haha. She loved being part of the Gascoyne Community, and loved living in Hackney.

Mum was a member of the Stroke Support Group, ran by the Shoreditch Trust. They provided lots of support and happy memories for mum and continue to provide crucial support to stroke survivors in our community. In place of giving flowers, we invite you to donate to them instead on this site, if you wish. You can also donate here: https://www.shoreditchtrust.org.uk/donate/

We also invite you to leave messages and memories in the tribute section of the site.

All are invited to the funeral and reception. Please see details below.

Warmest regards,

Melissa Jhurry
